MBS Church Communications and Development Director

The MBS Church Communications and Development Director will report directly to Church Administration.  The Director must be a practicing Catholic and committed to the mission and vision of Most Blessed Sacrament Church.  The Director must be self-motivated, self-directed and a team player.  The Director will attend all Church Staff meetings and attend professional development workshops.

Communications - Develops and implements communication strategies to share Most Blessed Sacrament's vision and mission effectively with both staff, ministry committees and MBS community members and the Baton Rouge community at large. This includes creating, managing, and overseeing various communication channels such as social media, bulletins, advertising, and outreach materials. They collaborate with Parish Administration and Ministry Teams to ensure consistent and impactful messaging.

Development - Plays a pivotal role in fostering a culture of stewardship and philanthropy within the Parish community. The individual will work closely with the Most Blessed Sacrament  Bookkeeper,  Finance Committee, and Pastoral Council.  They will  lead fundraising and strategic planning for Most Blessed Sacrament and guide efforts to foster financial stability and Parish growth. They are also responsible for developing and implementing fundraising plans, donor relations, ensuring accurate and timely donor reporting and collaborating with ministry teams and promoting fundraising events.

Communications Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with the Most Blessed Sacrament vision and mission.
  • Content Creation and Management: Produce and manage engaging content for various channels, including social media, newsletters, and promotional materials.
  • Digital Marketing: Manage and optimize the church's online presence, including social media, and email marketing.
  • Event Promotion: Develop and execute communication strategies and advertising to promote church events and initiatives.
  • Internal Communication: Strengthen internal communication among MBS staff and MBS ministries to ensure clear and consistent messaging within the church.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with MBS church administration, ministry teams, and volunteers to ensure effective communication across all areas of the church. Create personalized communication to engage stakeholders, ensuring that the church's mission, vision and brand are maintained with fidelity. Collaborate closely with webmaster to ensure communication is consistent with other messaging platforms.
  • Media Relations: Build relationships with local media outlets and manage communication with the press, i.e. articles for the Diocese and Catholic Television, advertisements in MBS Bulletin and MBS School Newsletter. Coordinate Parish mail outs.
  • Resource Management: Manage budget to effectively support communication efforts.
  • Development Key Responsibilities:

  • Fundraising: Developing and implementing stewardship and fundraising strategies - including annual appeals, major gifts, and special events.
  • Resource Management: Managing financial resources, budgets, and long-term planning to ensure financial stability and growth.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborating with MBS church leadership to develop and execute strategic plans for development and outreach.
  • Donor Relations: Cultivating, build, and maintaining relationships with parishioners, school alumni, community members ministries, donors, and potential donors. This includes stewardship efforts. Maintain donor database and records.
  • Team Leadership: Attend all appropriate fundraising committee meetings. Oversee and supporting a development team, including hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Reporting: Maintaining accurate and timely donor records, reporting on fundraising progress, and providing data for analysis.
  • Communication: Create personalized communication to engage and recognize donors at all levels ensuring that the church's mission, vision and brand is evident to potential donors and the wider community.
  • Grant Writing: Identifying and pursuing foundation and corporation grant opportunities to support church programs and initiatives.

  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including effective communication with donors, staff, and volunteers.
  • Content Creation and Design: Ability to create engaging content, including written copy, visuals, and multimedia.
  • Digital Marketing Expertise: Familiarity with digital marketing platforms, social media management, and website development.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and implement communication strategies that align with the church's goals and develop and execute strategic plans for development.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with church leaders, staff, and ministry teams.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously and effectively.
  • Passion for Church Ministry and Knowledge of Church Culture: A genuine passion for serving God and contributing to the growth and development of the church while understanding church traditions, values, and practices.
  • Volunteer, Leadership and Management: Ability to lead and manage volunteer and leadership teams effectively.
  • Fundraising Experience: Proven experience in fundraising, development, or a related field.
  • Financial Knowledge: A general understanding of financial principles and budgeting.
  • Faith-Based Values: Demonstrated commitment to Christian principles and values.
